Green Accelerator Middle East: scaling environmental enterprises and impact
In May 2021, the Middle East's first regional green entrepreneurship accelerator programme (GA-ME) was launched with 11 innovative social and environmental impact enterprises. The accelerator leads these companies to investment readiness and scaling up of sustainable business models and is implemented by cewas in collaboration with impact investors and partners who accompany the environmental entrepreneurs from the beginning. GA-ME's main partners are the Islamic Development Bank, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, UNDP, the Palestinian Investment Fund and Arcenciel. The Asfari Foundation provides technical assistance as collaborating partners.
All green businesses participating in GA-ME offer innovative solutions that address challenges in the agriculture, water, sanitation, hygiene, waste or health sector in one or more target countries, including Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine. The companies were selected based on criteria to maximise environmental and social impact, taking into account their dedicated and solution-oriented teams, their market-based and scalable business models, revenues and impact, a proven product/service and an existing customer base with recurring sales.
