Swiss Bluetec Bridge

The Swiss Bluetec Bridge strives to accelerate sustainable access to water and sanitation for local residents in rural areas and in small towns in developing and emerging economies by providing them with advanced technology and innovation.

The programme was launched in November 2012 and offers financing and encouragement to Swiss-based start-ups – such as ECyTech (see picture) -, SMEs and social entrepreneurs at the early stage of their journeys. At the end of the process, entrepreneurs who have succeeded in the field get recognized and promoted through the Swiss Bluetec Bridge network and enter new markets. Moreover, trainings on proposal writing are organized for the participants.

SwissRe Resource Award

The ReSource Award by Swiss Re Foundation acknowledges social entrepreneurial initiatives aimed at prototyping or scaling up new approaches for resolving existing social and ecological issues related to sustainable water management practices. Examples include access to, use and supply of water, sanitation and hygiene in low, lower-middle and upper-middle-income countries as classified by the World Bank.

cewas coaches and provides expert advices to the selected start-ups at our training center in Willisau (see picture). The award winning organization will then be supported during the following three years in further developing, prototyping or scaling up its social entrepreneurial initiative.

Innovative Business Partnerships for SMEs in Southern Africa

The project aims to improve the conditions for business partnerships with selected SMEs in the field of water, sanitation and resource management in South Africa, Namibia and Zambia. For this purpose, the project is implemented in two phases:

1) empowering local SMEs and matching SMEs as well as matchmaking and innovation-based brokering processes between European water, sanitation and resource management technology, and

2) coaching business partnerships – support business partnerships resulting from the matchmaking processes and present the project results at international networking events.
seecon initiated and coordinates the project, including the following activities:
• initiate, coordinate and facilitate the training sessions in close cooperation with the implementing partners
• lead the communication process with the local SMEs to formalize the business relationships
• execute the respective processes in Namibia, South Africa and Zambia, making use of its existing strong ties to local businesses
• train local partners, enabling them to initiate and execute business development trainings and matchmaking processes on their own initiative
• identify more than 50 SMEs who seek to develop new business areas in the water, sanitation and resource management sector
• support match-making process between SMEs and partners through continuous coaching
