In 2025, Cewas continued to strengthen its work supporting water and sanitation entrepreneurs and building the ecosystems they need to grow and create lasting impact. The year marked 15 years of Cewas working alongside locally rooted businesses, partners, investors, and institutions across Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. This long-term commitment has helped create stronger networks, new financing opportunities, and more supportive environments for innovative water and sanitation solutions.
In Africa, the MajiFund surpassed USD 2 million in committed capital and supported 25 WASH enterprises across Ghana, Kenya, and Uganda. Cewas also launched SanUp, a new programme focused on promising sanitation businesses, mapping 188 enterprises and selecting 15 for tailored support. In Uganda, the Safe Water Accelerator helped eight businesses strengthen their strategies, improve their financial management, and prepare for future investment. The growing Majipreneurs community also continued to bring entrepreneurs, investors, and other key actors together, with events and networks gaining momentum across Uganda, Ghana, and Kenya.
In the Middle East, Cewas managed ten projects and programmes across Jordan, Iraq, and Lebanon, building on more than eight years of work in the region. More than 40 startups and SMEs received support through acceleration programmes and tailored technical assistance. At the same time, Cewas continued to shift its focus toward specific sectors and markets where innovative solutions can find greater demand, attract investment, and achieve long term impact.
Latin America also entered a new chapter in 2025. With a growing regional team, Cewas strengthened its support for water and sanitation entrepreneurship through programmes covering different stages of business development. Open innovation initiatives in Colombia and Ecuador helped identify new ideas and solutions, while Gacelas and Cewas Te Acelera supported entrepreneurs as they prepared to grow and scale their businesses. Cewas also continued its work on integrity management in the water and sanitation sector and began preparing Aquapreneurs, a new regional initiative designed to strengthen collaboration between entrepreneurs, public institutions, investors, academia, and development partners.
Across all regions, Cewas continued to invest in a growing global community of water and sanitation entrepreneurs and the people and organizations that support them. After 15 years, Cewas has worked with more than 620 businesses whose solutions have benefited over 8 million people. Together, these enterprises have created more than 3,200 full time jobs, helped save millions of cubic meters of freshwater, safely treated millions of cubic meters of wastewater, and avoided nearly 8 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. The 2025 Annual Impact Report shows what can happen when promising local solutions receive the long-term support, connections, and opportunities they need to grow.
