The Female Health & Hygiene Accelerator (FHHA) was the first dedicated accelerator of its kind in East and West Africa. Running from 12 August 2024 to August 2025, it supported 10 women-led enterprises tackling menstrual health and hygiene challenges in Kenya, Uganda, and Ghana. The programme offered tailored business support, investment readiness training, and ecosystem development to address the critical gaps women entrepreneurs face in this underfunded sector. It also produced the first regional ecosystem analysis for the female health and hygiene space, mapping barriers, opportunities, and investment trends, and laying the groundwork for a growing movement of local, impact-driven businesses improving health, gender equity, and circular economy solutions.
FHHA was funded by Siemens Stiftung, The Case for Her, Knorr-Bremse Global Care, and The Waterloo Foundation, and implemented by cewas together with technical partners seecon impact, WASEU, OPERO, MDF, and Irise Institute East Africa (IIEA), each contributing specialised expertise in WASH entrepreneurship, femtech, and menstrual health across the region.
